Trinamool Congress Faces Internal Revolt as Defections Mount

Nineteen Lok Sabha members and 58 MLAs have openly challenged the leadership of Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee, signaling a fracture within the Trinamool Congress. This push for a new political direction follows a series of electoral setbacks in West Bengal, transforming internal friction into a formal bid for autonomy.

Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla characterized the dissent as a response to systemic irregularities and administrative failures within the party ranks. He stated that these conditions have driven members to consider the Bharatiya Janata Party as a more viable alternative for regional governance. The rebels are currently preparing for a decisive meeting in Delhi to solidify their stance against the current party hierarchy.

Mahua Moitra has countered the move, highlighting the constitutional hurdles facing the dissidents. She argues that any attempt to establish a separate parliamentary bloc is legally untenable without a full-scale merger into another political entity. The outcome of the upcoming Delhi gathering remains the critical pivot point for the future of the party's legislative cohesion.
