Tushar Kanti Das has formally accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of inciting communal discord, filing an FIR with the Kolkata Police. The complaint targets statements made during the recent election campaign, labeling the Trinamool Congress leader’s rhetoric as a calculated attempt to manipulate voters through sectarian division.
Das argues that Banerjee’s public addresses contradict her stated commitment to secularism, alleging she deliberately stoked tension to secure votes against the BJP. The complainant maintains that the Chief Minister’s language was designed to exploit communal anxieties in a desperate bid to stave off electoral losses. This legal action adds significant pressure to an already turbulent period for the administration. Beyond the courtroom, Banerjee is grappling with a fracturing party base marked by the departure of key MPs and open dissent from rebel MLAs. The police are now tasked with investigating whether her campaign remarks crossed the threshold into criminal incitement.
