Two days after taking office in Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s government, senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy has stepped down from his ministerial position. While the sudden departure signals internal turbulence, Reddy maintains his five-decade commitment to the party, insisting his exit is confined strictly to his government portfolio.
The resignation coincides with a high-profile defense of the Shakti scheme, the state’s flagship initiative providing free travel for women. AICC Karnataka co-incharge Abhishek Dutt praised the program’s tangible impact while attacking the BJP for allegedly failing to replicate such commitments effectively. Dutt used the moment to frame the Congress agenda as one of reliable delivery versus opposition hollow promises.Despite the friction, party leadership appears focused on damage control. Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah confirmed that the Congress high command intends to open a dialogue with both Reddy and veteran leader KH Muniyappa to resolve outstanding grievances. As the party navigates these personnel challenges, the final composition of the Cabinet remains under the purview of central leadership, leaving the aspirations of other MLAs tied to the outcome of these ongoing negotiations.
