Hours after vowing to strike Iranian defenses with overwhelming force, Donald Trump abruptly called off military operations. The president pivoted to a diplomatic stance, claiming that senior Iranian leadership approved the final terms of a proposed agreement supported by a broad coalition of Middle Eastern nations.
Trump announced the reversal on Truth Social, stating that discussions have reached the highest levels of the Islamic Republic. According to the president, this deal carries the backing of regional powers including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt. Despite the ceasefire in strikes, the U.S. naval blockade remains active and will continue until the agreement is formally signed at a location yet to be disclosed. The shift follows a day of escalating rhetoric in which Trump threatened to destroy Iran’s remaining naval and air defense capabilities. He had previously signaled an intent to seize Kharg Island, a critical hub handling 90 percent of Iran’s crude exports, to exert total control over the nation's energy infrastructure. For now, the administration has opted for negotiations over the threatened expansion of military intervention.
