With €103 million in new financing from the African Development Bank Group, Côte d'Ivoire is launching the second phase of its national electrification program. The initiative aims to connect 107,000 households across 18 regions, targeting both underserved rural localities and rapidly growing urban centers to meet rising energy demands.
The broader PROSER II project carries a total valuation of €234.56 million, supported by additional contributions of €83.96 million from the Islamic Development Bank and €47.46 million from the Ivorian government. Beyond connecting new homes, the investment focuses on rehabilitating distribution networks in Greater Abidjan and 12 departmental capitals, alongside the installation of 74,010 energy-efficient LED streetlights to bolster public safety and reduce consumption.Lamin Barrow, the Bank’s Director General for West Africa, noted that the project serves as a critical milestone for the nation’s 2030 universal access goal. The program extends past physical infrastructure, incorporating specific mandates to boost youth employability and economic empowerment for women. Following the successful completion of PROSER I—which surpassed its target by electrifying 1,509 localities—this second phase prioritizes institutional capacity building to ensure sustainable management of the sector as the country aligns its energy output with the National Development Plan 2026–2030.
