A significant fracture has emerged within Tamil Nadu’s political landscape as Karu Nagarajan, the state BJP vice president, resigned from his post to align with K Annamalai. This exit follows Annamalai’s own departure from the party, signaling a deepening internal shift that threatens the BJP's established structure in the region.
Speaking to reporters in Alandur, Nagarajan framed his departure as a calculated movement rather than a personal dispute. He described Annamalai as the potential "people's choice," citing his unique ability to engage directly with the public and mobilize youth participation. According to Nagarajan, the decision to leave was driven by frustration over leadership errors and a desire to pursue a more transparent, policy-oriented agenda that the current party framework failed to support. This trend of mass resignations highlights a strategic pivot among local functionaries who feel disconnected from the central party line. Annamalai’s recent arrival at Chennai airport, marked by a vocal reception from supporters, underscores the momentum behind this new initiative. Nagarajan insisted that these departures are a matter of democratic duty, aimed at addressing systemic government drawbacks that he claims the BJP leadership overlooked during his 18-month tenure.
