Congress and BJP Clash Over Mamata Banerjee's Bangladesh Remarks

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari has accused the BJP of prioritizing the political destabilization of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal over the needs of the public. This charge follows a sharp escalation in tensions after state BJP leadership condemned Mamata Banerjee for allegedly undermining India's diplomatic stability.

Tiwari claims the BJP’s maneuvers are designed specifically to weaken Mamata Banerjee rather than address governance or welfare. He argued that the ruling party is running a calculated campaign to discredit the Chief Minister. West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya rejected these claims, asserting that Banerjee’s recent commentary regarding Bangladesh has jeopardized international relations and the security of minority groups abroad.

The political fallout has now moved into the courtroom. Advocate Rinki Chatterjee Singh filed a legal complaint against Banerjee, alleging that her public statements were provocative and defamatory toward constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission and Central Armed Forces. Bhattacharya maintained that her remarks have drawn universal condemnation, citing them as a direct threat to bilateral ties.
