Under the cover of darkness in the Indian Ocean, US military personnel executed a maritime interdiction on the MT Davina, a stateless tanker previously flagged by Washington for transporting illicit Iranian crude. The operation, confirmed by the Indo-Pacific Command, marks a sharp escalation in ongoing efforts to disrupt Tehran’s supply networks.

The boarding of the vessel, which the US Treasury sanctioned in 2024 for delivering oil to China, follows a period of heightened volatility in global shipping lanes. Since the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Iran in late February, Tehran has maintained a naval blockade across the Strait of Hormuz, effectively choking a critical artery for global energy transit.

In response, Washington has established a counter-blockade targeting Iranian ports.
