Accompanied by senior party leader Amit Chavda and a group of supporters, Mevani drew a sharp comparison between the current situation and the rapid legal response triggered by insults directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother. He argued that the failure to act against Dave demonstrates a double standard in the state's administration. Mevani asserted that the inflammatory content has caused deep offense to the Dalit community and families across Gujarat, emphasizing that his demand for an FIR is non-negotiable.
The Vadgam MLA further accused officials within the state Home Department and the BJP headquarters, known as Kamalam, of actively circulating the offensive posts to damage his reputation. Tensions flared at the police station entrance when officers initially restricted access to the building, leading to physical confrontations between party workers and security personnel. Mevani has vowed to initiate an indefinite hunger strike if local authorities continue to refuse the registration of a criminal case against the accused.
