Shankersinh Vaghela targets BJP leadership over institutional integrity

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela dismissed recent focus on Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, arguing that the true locus of political power and institutional influence lies solely with the Prime Minister and the BJP. Vaghela called for a democratic transition to dismantle what he described as a system of ideological patronage.

Vaghela, speaking in an interview, contended that focusing on individual officials like Kumar misses the broader pattern of governance. He alleged that the Prime Minister, as a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh pracharak, ensures that key institutions—including the Election Commission, the Home Ministry, and the Reserve Bank—align their agendas with the party’s interests. He extended this critique to the judiciary, claiming that judicial appointments are frequently delayed until candidates with specific ideological ties to the Sangh are secured for the bench.

Beyond institutional critique, the veteran politician addressed his recent comments on reservation, clarifying his support for women, OBCs, SCs, and STs while accusing the current administration of working against these groups. He further alleged that the BJP receives funding from cow slaughterhouses, contrasting this with the party’s public stance on cow protection. Vaghela claimed that such contradictions, combined with widespread corruption and rising inflation, have fueled public resentment. He argued that the path to change requires a unified effort to provide an alternative to the BJP’s three-decade hold on power in Gujarat, suggesting that he is in ongoing discussions with Congress leadership to facilitate this shift.
