Maharashtra Minister Dismisses Thackeray Brothers' Protest March

Joined in a rare public display of unity, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray led a protest march toward the BMC headquarters on Sunday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Girish Mahajan, a senior Maharashtra minister, swiftly rebuked the joint demonstration, labeling the move a futile exercise by leaders unable to accept electoral defeat. Mahajan argued that the Thackeray cousins frequently deflect blame onto the Supreme Court, the Election Commission, and national leadership rather than engaging with the electorate. He urged them to focus their efforts on grassroots outreach rather than staging protests after the fact.

During the march, the opposition leaders leveled serious allegations against the poll panel. Uddhav Thackeray characterized the protest as a stand against dictatorship, claiming that voter rolls have been compromised across the country, specifically citing missing names in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Raj Thackeray echoed these concerns, calling for the immediate cancellation of the current revision exercise in Maharashtra. He questioned the necessity of the Special Intensive Revision, alleging that the process is being used to systematically remove millions of voters from the rolls.
