Owaisi threatens Hyderabad protests over alleged electoral roll tampering

Threatening mass demonstrations in Hyderabad, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has accused the BJP and Sangh Parivar of weaponizing Form-7 applications to systematically purge Muslim voters from electoral rolls. He demanded immediate intervention from the Election Commission, warning that the current revision process risks becoming a backdoor National Register of Citizens.

Speaking at the Jalsa-e-Milad-un-Nabi on Saturday, Owaisi alleged that anonymous, pre-printed objection forms are being submitted to delete entries without providing the identity of the complainants. He characterized this as a calculated attempt to disenfranchise voters, stating that his party would mobilize street protests surpassing the scale of those previously seen at Jantar Mantar if the practice continues.

The Hyderabad MP has long criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, labeling it a precursor to a citizenship test. He urged the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana and district officials to halt the misuse of the deletion process. Owaisi emphasized that the AIMIM has consistently opposed the current SIR framework across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Delhi, framing the struggle as a defense of constitutional voting rights against politically motivated administrative maneuvers.
