Haryana shifts focus toward energy-producing farms

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has outlined a dual-track strategy to transform the state’s agricultural sector, urging farmers to adopt solar power generation alongside traditional food production. The initiative aims to integrate rural households into the national energy grid while promoting large-scale shifts toward natural farming practices.

The government is prioritizing the expansion of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a solar energy scheme that has already equipped over 150,000 rooftops across the state with photovoltaic panels. Saini noted that these installations have effectively eliminated electricity costs for participating households. Beyond solar adoption, the administration is pushing for a significant expansion in natural farming. Saini has tasked ministers and MLAs with mobilizing farmers to dedicate at least one acre of land per family to chemical-free agriculture, setting a target of 1,000 farmers per assembly constituency.

Addressing party workers in Delhi, the Chief Minister framed these policy goals as part of a broader political mandate rooted in public service. He emphasized that the state’s developmental agenda should transcend election cycles, pointing to the mobilization of BJP cadres during the COVID-19 pandemic as a benchmark for sustained social engagement. By aligning state policy with the central government’s vision, Saini aims to reposition Haryana’s rural economy as a self-sustaining model that balances food security with decentralized energy production.
