Patel emphasized that the final decision rests with SP national president Akhilesh Yadav, noting that the current political reality does not support the Congress party's ambitious target. With the Congress holding only two assembly seats compared to the Samajwadi Party’s 125, Patel suggested that a realistic allocation should fall between seven and eight seats, with an upper limit of 30. He warned that conceding anything beyond that threshold would lead to wasted resources and potential defeat for the coalition.
The friction highlights the internal challenges facing the opposition as they prepare to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. While Congress seeks a significant role in the 2027 polls to stage a comeback in the state, Patel remains firm that the public support currently favors the Samajwadi Party’s governance model. In the 2022 elections, the BJP secured a dominant 255 seats, while the SP took 111, leaving little room for smaller partners to dictate terms.
