The controversy erupted after Stalin, speaking in support of DMK candidate S Suganya, referred to Sathyabama as Petti Bama and Palti Bama, ridiculing her recent transition from the AIADMK to the TVK. Vijay characterized these remarks as a display of sadistic pleasure, arguing that such behavior is deeply embedded in the DMK’s political culture. He framed the incident as a broader pattern of hostility toward women, positioning himself as a defender of their dignity in the state.
TVK leader CTR Nirmal Kumar confirmed that the party intends to petition the Election Commission regarding the comments. He emphasized that the remarks are particularly offensive given Sathyabama’s status as a Scheduled Caste woman engaged in public service. The DMK has yet to offer a formal apology, while the TVK maintains that the ruling party’s rhetoric stems from mounting frustration over the upcoming electoral contest, which features a three-way race between Sathyabama, the DMK’s S Suganya, and the AIADMK’s K Bhanumathi.
