The dispute centers on Form-7, a mechanism intended for citizens to flag ineligible or duplicate entries in voter rolls. Vijayendra argues that BJP workers were exercising a legal right prescribed by the Election Commission, whereas state leaders, including Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, contend these filings were used to systematically purge legitimate voters. Following accusations of misuse, the state government pressured authorities to initiate investigations, leading to multiple police complaints across Karnataka.
During the meeting with Director General and Inspector General of Police M.A. Saleem, the BJP delegation—which included former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and opposition leaders R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy—asserted that the administration is targeting political rivals. Vijayendra warned that if the state does not drop the charges, the party will escalate its response through statewide demonstrations and protests outside police stations. Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer has instructed officials to pursue legal action against anyone found knowingly submitting false claims, leaving the standoff between the BJP and the state government at a tense impasse.
