€40 Million Injection Targets Wallonia and Brussels Creative Sector

Creative entrepreneurs in Wallonia and the Brussels-Capital Region face a persistent financing gap, as traditional lenders often struggle to value intangible assets like intellectual property. A fresh €40 million guarantee from the European Investment Fund aims to bridge this divide, providing the necessary leverage to unlock capital for local innovators.

€40 Million Injection Targets Wallonia and Brussels Creative Sector

The European Investment Fund has renewed the ST'ART fund's access to the EU's InvestEU guarantee mechanism, empowering the investment group to back projects that rely on talent rather than physical collateral. By mitigating the risks associated with unpredictable demand and specialized market conditions, the agreement allows ST'ART to offer faster, more affordable financing to small and medium-sized creative enterprises.

ST'ART leadership, including president Jean Leblon and chief executive Virginie Civrais, views this mechanism as a cornerstone of their lending strategy. They note that previous iterations of this guarantee triggered a surge in investment activity, providing a vital lifeline for businesses navigating the technological disruptions and economic turbulence that have defined the sector since 2020.

Government officials, including Minister-President Elisabeth Degryse, have championed the partnership as a crucial step in translating European funding into tangible support for local stakeholders. This initiative carries significant economic weight: the broader European creative sector accounts for roughly 4.4% of EU GDP, outperforming industries like pharmaceuticals and automotive manufacturing. In Belgium, the creative economy sustains tens of thousands of jobs, contributing over 3% to the national GDP. With this new capacity, ST'ART intends to bolster its support across the entire business lifecycle, from early-stage startups to established firms looking to scale their operations.
