Pargat Singh Takes Helm of Punjab Congress

The Indian National Congress has appointed former hockey captain and Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh as the new president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. The leadership change, announced by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Friday, marks an immediate transition as the party reconfigures its regional structure ahead of future political challenges.

Singh steps into the role following the departure of Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who led the state unit since April 2022. While the party leadership expressed appreciation for Warring’s tenure, the organizational hierarchy below the presidency remains intact; working presidents and committee heads will continue in their current capacities.

Following the official notification, Singh took to social media to acknowledge the support of party stalwarts, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot. He pledged to approach the new mandate with dedication to bolster the party's presence across the state. This appointment signals a strategic pivot for the Congress in Punjab as it seeks to stabilize its internal ranks and maintain operational continuity.
