Small Business and Manufacturing Minister Cameron Brewer spearheaded the update, acknowledging that owners prioritize daily operations over deciphering complex government hierarchies. Instead of forcing users to identify which agency manages a specific grant, the tool filters opportunities by business objective, such as research and development, export growth, or productivity improvements. This shift follows a cross-government review that exposed the inefficiencies of the previous, siloed system.

Seven agencies collaborated to populate the platform, which now features 15 distinct funding streams. Catherine Lye, chief executive of Advancing Manufacturing Aotearoa, noted that the consolidation removes a significant barrier for firms that previously remained unaware of available support. With the government business platform recording 6.2 million interactions last year, this upgrade integrates into an existing digital ecosystem that includes tools like the Employment Agreement Builder, aiming to keep business owners focused on expansion rather than administrative navigation.
