West Bengal joins Har Ghar Tiranga campaign with massive flag distribution

The state government’s Department of Information and Cultural Affairs began the distribution process on August 5, targeting government offices and educational institutions under central guidelines. A 'Tiranga Rally' is set to march from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose statue to the Birla Planetarium, with organizers anticipating at least 50,000 participants. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari framed the initiative as a non-partisan effort to foster nationalism, distancing the program from previous administration policies.

Beyond the campaign, the administration unveiled significant structural changes. The Cabinet approved land transfers to the Border Security Force and finalized plans to increase ward counts in urban centers, expanding Howrah from 50 to 60 wards and Kolkata from 144 to 209. To facilitate these changes, a special legislative session is slated for August 12. Additionally, the state is rebranding its rural housing scheme from 'Bangla Bari' to 'Paschim Banga Awas Yojana' and developing a supplementary financial aid program for women, intended to bolster the existing Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana benefits.
