Both leaders pledged to protect transit routes in the Strait of Hormuz and maintain pressure on Iran to prevent nuclear proliferation. Miliband, who serves as Britain’s governor on the World Bank board, noted that securing the Gulf waterways is vital to mitigating the UK's ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Before departing Washington, Miliband scheduled a separate session with World Bank President Ajay Banga to discuss international development, alongside his planned advocacy for addressing the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
