New Mexico Sues DOJ to Unlock Secret Epstein Ranch Records

Attorney General Raul Torrez argues that federal stonewalling prevents the state from advancing its investigation, which reopened this past February. New Mexico officials allege the DOJ reneged on a 2019 agreement to share evidence, leaving the state unable to press charges. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, seeks to compel Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to hand over documents detailing visitors and staff at the Zorro Ranch.

The Department of Justice maintains that it cannot fulfill the request due to strict privacy protections and court orders. A spokesperson stated that New Mexico lacks a legal basis for such sweeping disclosures, noting that the agency is prohibited from releasing victim-identifying information. Meanwhile, the investigation faces mounting challenges, including the sale of the ranch in 2023 and the loss of physical evidence over the decades. Torrez confirmed that the state has committed substantial resources to the case but remains stalled without access to the federal archives.
