UK Antisemitism Incidents Near Record Highs

The violence reached a flashpoint in April when two worshippers were stabbed in London’s Golders Green, an assault currently investigated as a terrorist attack. Beyond physical violence, Jewish infrastructure has faced persistent threats, including arson attacks on synagogues and the destruction of four ambulances operated by a community emergency service. Mark Gardner, chief executive of the CST, warned that these threats originate from a volatile mix of state-directed actors and domestic ideological extremes, spanning from Islamist groups to far-right and far-left factions.

Government officials have linked recent spikes in activity to the broader conflict involving Israel and Iran, with British authorities alleging that Tehran utilizes proxies to facilitate operations across Europe. Iran continues to deny these accusations. In response to the rising atmosphere of fear among Britain’s 280,000 Jews, the government recently pledged 250 million pounds to bolster security for schools and religious centers over the next three years. Policing minister Sarah Jones emphasized that the state remains committed to shielding these communities from further harm.
