Rahul Gandhi Targets RSS Ideology at Vaiko Book Launch

Speaking at the release of 'Vaiko in Parliament' on Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi framed the current student protests over NEET-UG exam irregularities as a direct clash against the RSS ideology, which he argued seeks to impose a singular history and language over India's diverse regional identities.

Gandhi criticized the central government’s response to the ongoing student demonstrations, specifically rebuking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for offering to 'forgive' protestors. The Congress leader questioned the Prime Minister's authority to adopt such a posture, framing the government's stance as a dangerous attempt to diminish the collective aspirations of the nation's youth. He insisted that India’s strength lies in its status as a 'Union of States,' where regional histories and languages must be preserved rather than subsumed under a monolithic cultural agenda.

The event, which celebrated the parliamentary career of MDMK leader Vaiko, served as a platform for Gandhi to contrast his political philosophy with that of the BJP and RSS. He praised Vaiko for his decades of consistency in defending the Tamil identity, positioning him as a symbol of the resistance against attempts to centralize cultural authority. The launch drew a significant gathering of opposition figures, including Akhilesh Yadav, P. Chidambaram, and D. Raja, who joined Gandhi in emphasizing the necessity of protecting the constitutional mandate of diversity against what he described as a caustic, exclusionary ideology.
