DMK Decries Udhayanidhi Stalin Arrest as Political Retaliation

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) asserts that the TVK government acted with unusual haste, filing the complaint just one day before the arrest. According to the party, the move is a strategic maneuver designed to prevent Udhayanidhi Stalin from addressing the contentious Cauvery water dispute during the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session scheduled for Wednesday. The DMK maintains that the opposition leader’s previous comments were focused on public policy rather than personal attacks.

Authorities registered the case under nine separate sections, including provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, and the Information Technology Act. The DMK leadership has countered by questioning the moral standing of the ruling party, highlighting instances where TVK figures allegedly avoided scrutiny for their own controversial remarks. Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam joined the protest in Theni on Tuesday, signaling a broader mobilization against what the party labels as fascist governance. Despite the legal pressure, the DMK insists that such tactics will not diminish its legislative agenda or its political resolve.
