Udhayanidhi Stalin Detained Following Controversy Over Actor Remarks

Police apprehended Stalin at his Chennai residence and transported him to Thanjavur for questioning regarding an FIR filed after his recent speech at a Cauvery protest. The controversy centers on a moment during the rally when audience chants of "Trisha" prompted a response from Stalin, who allegedly quipped, "Whether the water reaches anywhere else or not, it should reach there." While critics interpreted this as a double-entendre targeting the actor, Stalin dismissed the incident as a "comedy" and accused opponents of circulating doctored footage.

Stalin remains defiant, asserting that the controversy relies on "cut, copy, paste" tactics intended to intimidate him. "I will face it legally," he stated. The charges against him are extensive, including sections 61, 79, 192, 196, 296(b), 351(2), and 352 of the BNS, along with provisions under the TN Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act and the IT Act. TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan condemned the remarks as a reflection of declining political standards, while DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan defended the leader, maintaining that the speech focused exclusively on the state government's failures and never referenced the actor by name.
