Prosecutors allege that these citizens obtained their status through systematic deception, ranging from identity theft and marriage fraud to serious criminal offenses such as attempted murder and child sexual abuse. The government’s move marks a significant escalation in immigration enforcement, bringing the total number of denaturalization filings to 123 since January 20, 2025.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche characterized the effort as a necessary step to protect the integrity of the naturalization process. According to the Department of Justice, the filings represent the largest surge in such cases in the agency's history. Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate emphasized that the current wave of litigation is only the beginning of a broader campaign to identify and remove individuals whose original applications were built on disqualifying conduct or fraudulent records.
