The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and IT, chaired by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, pressed Meta officials during a meeting on Monday regarding the incident. The video, which addressed government action against examination paper leaks, was taken down on July 28 and restored shortly after. While Meta representatives attributed the action to a technical error, committee members insisted that the focus must shift toward legal accountability rather than simple corporate apologies.

Beyond the specific removal of the Prime Minister's content, the panel scrutinized Meta’s broader policies for managing controversial material. This session was part of a wider inquiry into the regulation of digital platforms, which also included representatives from Google, X, Snapchat, and YouTube. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has maintained a skeptical stance, with Secretary S Krishnan noting that the company’s explanation remains insufficient. The committee’s firm position signals a hardening regulatory climate for social media giants operating within India, as lawmakers seek to define clearer consequences for automated content moderation failures.
