Pappu Yadav Defends Parliamentary Skit Amid Privilege Motion Row

The controversy centers on a notice submitted by BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal, who accused Yadav of ridiculing religious sentiments by dressing as a Hindu saint within the Parliament complex on July 31. Jaiswal invoked Rule 222 and Rule 223, urging Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to refer the matter to the Committee of Privileges. Yadav, however, framed the challenge as a double standard, questioning why verbal attacks against past Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders are tolerated within the House while his external protest is met with procedural threats.

Support for the independent MP arrived from TMC member Kirti Azad, who argued that Yadav’s actions merely highlighted the reported theft at the Ram Temple. Azad questioned why the temple trust has remained silent on the matter while demanding accountability from the government. Beyond the parliamentary dispute, the situation has escalated into a criminal investigation; Delhi Police have detained one suspect following an alleged knife attack on Yadav during a Sunday press conference. Charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including the obstruction of a public servant, have been filed against the identified suspects, Sumit Sharma and Happy Sharma.
