The political tension stems from a July 31 parliamentary protest where opposition members, including Pappu Yadav, enacted a skit critiquing temple donation management. Following the performance, local authorities in Varanasi filed complaints against Gandhi, Yadav, and SP leader Awadhesh Prasad for allegedly insulting Sanatan Dharma. The BJP maintains the demonstration crossed a religious line, demanding accountability for what they characterize as a deliberate provocation.
Simultaneously, the situation escalated on the ground when a scuffle broke out at Pappu Yadav’s residence. The Purnea MP reported that an intruder, allegedly armed with a knife, confronted him during a press conference. Yadav described the incident as a targeted assassination attempt, citing public threats from individuals who had placed a bounty on his head. As multiple police complaints continue to circulate, the opposition remains firm, framing the legal pressure as a transparent attempt to shield the administration from mounting public disillusionment.
