Samajwadi Party protests hit UP Assembly session start

Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav condemned the government for limiting the Monsoon Session to just three days, arguing that such a brief window prevents meaningful debate on critical state issues. Beyond the temple donation controversy, opposition members highlighted mounting public frustration over erratic power supplies and acute fertiliser shortages.

Government officials dismissed the protest as a manufactured distraction. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna claimed the opposition lacks a substantive agenda, asserting that the state’s development trajectory exceeds public expectations. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak echoed this sentiment, accusing the Samajwadi Party of wasting time and failing to reflect on its own past governance record. Meanwhile, Speaker Satish Mahana confirmed the government will table a supplementary budget on Tuesday to fund new welfare schemes, describing the move as a routine constitutional exercise to address expenditure requirements that emerged after the annual budget’s passage.
